THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN YOU TAKE HOME A BABY BIRD FROM THE AVIARY BIRD SHOP & GARDENS

-
During the first three days give your baby plenty of cage time to get used to its new parents and family, to the new environment, and to discover its new food trays. Take out to play only 15 to 20 minutes at a time, then back to cage for 3 to 4 hours.
-
Lower the perch to the first welding point for the baby bird to acquire full dominance of the cage.
-
Place the cage away for A/C vent, fan or open window, so as to always avoid a direct air current. If you have no other choice but to do so, make sure the vent is closed or directed to the opposite side. (If you have previously bought a cage, make sure it is disinfected, including the grill and replace the wood perch with a new one.)
-
Place feeders on the floor of the cage, as well as next to the perch (all together 2-3 food bowls) to ensure that the baby bird is able to encounter food everywhere.
-
We wean our baby birds on pellets, fresh veggies, pasta mixture and fruits. Their diet should consist of these items along with seed (a couple times a week and hard boiled or scrambled egg.) A list is provided at the front desk. All this is done so that the baby birds palate is being trained from the beginning a variety of foods. There should be a bowl for pellets, soft foods, and water. Add seed to the pellet bowl.
-
If mush is necessary, acquire a fourth dish and leave for about 6 hours.
-
If you baby is a lovebird, cockatiel or any small bird, make sure you always place millet next to the food dish for the first 6 months of its life.
- Get your bird acquainted with toys from the beginning. Toys are necessary and help to keep your baby bird occupied and to further their intelligence.
